Important Spring Driving Tips for the Safe Driver

Here at Auto Clinic of Franklin we are excited and happy that the cold weather season is over and that Mother Nature has now given way to the warm spring temperatures and the onset of budding flowers and trees.  With that said, our friendly team of professionals wants to offer a few helpful spring driving tips to keep you and your family safe on the roadways this spring.

6 Tips for Driving Safely This Spring

Tip # 1 – Be Sure to Perform Proper Maintenance to Your Vehicle –  With winter finally over and spring having arrived, drivers should be sure that their vehicles are properly maintained for the varied spring driving conditions.  Be sure to replace your tires if they are worn from all the heavy winter driving and ensure that your windshield wipers are in tip top shape, especially since spring brings forth a whole lot of rainy weather.  In addition, take time out to wash all the winter salt off of your vehicle that accumulated during the winter driving so as to prevent any rust damage from occurring to your car.

Tire RotationsTip # 2 – Ensure Your Tires are Safe – Be sure to check your tires at the start of the spring driving season to ensure that they are at appropriate inflation levels.  If your tires are fully inflated they can better absorb the brunt and shock of unsuspecting potholes and a variety of other road challenges and varied weather conditions as well.

Tip # 3 – Beware of Puddles and Potholes – When driving in the wet spring months make every effort to avoid driving through large puddles since it can cause you to hydroplane, can cause impairment of your braking system, and can also diminish your visibility.  In addition, try to navigate around all those annoying potholes that have formed as a result of concrete expansion and thawing snow.

Tip # 4 – Wet Spring Driving Road and Highway Conditions – We are all familiar with the frequent rainstorms that occur throughout the spring months, which means you are sure to encounter and have to travel on some pretty wet road conditions.   Be sure to adjust your driving techniques accordingly by leaving additional space between your vehicle, and the car ahead of you and by giving yourself additional time needed to come to a full stop.  Wet roads can present with slippery conditions and cause you to rear end a vehicle in front of you if you do not give yourself plenty of stopping room and time.

Tip # 5 – Avoid Those Wandering Animals –  When the winter season comes to a close, many animals such as bears and deer come out of hibernation and are much more active and present during the spring and summer months.  With that said, be on the lookout for these animals so you are prepared to either stop or drive around them when they attempt to cross the road or scurry onto the highway.

Tip # 6 – Respect Road Construction Work and Crews – Road work and busy crews pick up desperately during the spring season.  From repairing and filling potholes to all types of road and highway maintenance, the amount of construction that goes on in the spring time is increased.  Be sure to drive at a much slower speed when in a construction zone and allow road crews a good deal of additional space on the roadways.

We hope you find these tips helpful and that you will actively engage in each one of them this spring and seasons thereafter.  Here at Auto Clinic of Franklin we want to help make a difference in the safety and well being of all our valued clients and hope you will give some focus to our spring driving safety tips.  And don’t forget, if you are in need of top quality automotive services or repairs, then we are the team for you.  Give a shout out to our staff and schedule your service appointment today.  We look forward to serving you and to providing you with the best all round automotive services and repairs this side of Franklin!
